Planning Your Event

The key to ensuring your event is successful is to plan! There is no right or wrong way to fundraise, just be sure to do something which is reflective of you and your community and have fun.

Say thanks

Once your event is finished, be sure to say a big thank you to your donors and attendees. You can also provide suggestions on how people might continue to support the work of Ovarian Cancer Australia.

Invite Your Guests

Family, friends, colleagues and associates – you can invite anyone to your Paint the Town Teal! Invite as many people as you or your venue can handle. Use the e-invite or the printable invite found on our Resources page.

Share your online fundraising page

Upon registration, you will be emailed a fundraising link. Donations can be made using this link before, during or after your event. Make sure you share it with your family, friends or colleagues on your social media pages and via email. It’s a great way for people who are unable to attend your event to donate! By using this link, people are able to donate using a credit card. They will be receipted upon payment. Unfortunately, once you have registered you are unable to edit your fundraising page. If you would like to make any changes, please contact the office by email or on 1300 660 334.

Choose a date and make it yours

Choose a date in February – Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month – that best suits to host your event. Then coordinate a location, time and event theme that best suits you. The Paint the Town Teal campaign is a play on words of afternoon tea and teal as the international colour of ovarian cancer but your Paint the Town Teal can be whatever you would like it to be. Our supporters have golf days, gala dinners and silent auctions to name a few. Choose an event that you and your friends would enjoy. Check out our fundraising ideas for what sort of event your Paint the Town Teal could be.

Remember, as long as you are raising funds and awareness of ovarian cancer, your event is a Paint the Town Teal!

Create a list and reach out for support

Once you’ve chosen what to do for your Paint the Town Teal, you’ll need to create a list of the food, drinks, decorations and the things you’ll need to entertain your guests. To help reduce the cost of your event, it’s a great idea to approach local businesses to donate goods. If you would like to do this, please contact the office on 1300 660 334 or email for a covering letter that authorises your fundraising on Ovarian Cancer Australia’s behalf.

Teal Ribbons

Included in your Paint the Town Teal Kit are some teal ribbons to be sold at your event for $2 each. If you would like to order more, please purchase them here. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide merchandise on consignment at this point in time

Social Media

Social media is a great way to promote your Paint the Town Teal with family, friends and colleagues. Create an event page for your Afternoon Teal on Facebook or simply share your fundraising link to give people the opportunity to donate. Share photos from your event on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter, and be sure to use #paintthetownteal and #ovariancanceroz to share them with Ovarian Cancer Australia!

Inform & Educate

It is important for people attending the event to learn about Ovarian Cancer, and particularly the signs and symptoms. There is no early detection test for ovarian cancer and most women are diagnosed in advanced stages of the disease. Be sure to hand out the brochures you receive in your Paint the Town Teal kit at your event. If you would like more information please see our resource section, please email or call 1300 660 334 and ask to be sent an Awareness Pack.

If you have been personally affected by the disease, you may choose to share your experience with your attendees. If there is an emotional connection to the disease, people are more likely to give generously, but only do this if you feel comfortable sharing your experience.
